Adventures in Gyeonggi-do Part 2 - Spicy Glabi Jjim

In the town of Guri, about 30km from Seoul, you will find a restaurant called 만송골 갈비탕 (Mansonggol Galbi Tang) where they specialise in a range of beef rib-based dishes.  The menu consists of Galbi Tang (a beef rib soup in a light stock with vegetables), regular Galbi Jjim (which I wrote about here) and...*drum roll*... Spicy Galbi Jjim!

The pot of stew was placed on a portable gas burner in the centre of the table to keep it warm and making the sauce thicker and richer as the meal went on.  Along with a generous portion of beef ribs, this galbi jjim also contained fried king prawns (a new one to me!), loads of mushrooms and thick rice cake (ddok).

Once we had consumed the bulk of the meat and vegetables, the waitress brought around a bowl of cooked white rice, dried seaweed, fish roe and a range of other things I did not identify quickly enough and used the remains of the sauce to make a very rich spicy fried rice (called bokkum bab).  The making of fried rice with the left over sauce and meat from your meal is one of my favourite of Korea's many delicious culinary habits.

This was worth the drive.  I'm putting the address here so that I can find it again!
